Easter With Purpose: How to Decoupage Easter Eggs

Easter With Purpose: How to Decoupage Easter Eggs

Longer and brighter days, birds chirping outside, and flowers blooming can only mean that spring is just around the corner. Lockdown restrictions are starting to ease and we have the Easter holidays to look forward to. In all likelihood, we won’t be able to celebrate Easter as we would like, but we can still get creative and have a good time. Sharing a fun activity with your loved ones is a great way to spend some quality time together, while pushing your creativity. For this reason, we would like to show you How to Decoupage Easter Eggs. This is a great activity to do in the lead up to Easter, or a purposeful gift when combined with our #GetStarted set, or perhaps even a creative project to do on Easter day with your family and friends!

What you need for your Decoupage Easter Eggs

One of the great things about decoupaging your own Easter eggs is that it is an accessible activity to all, and everything you need is just a click away. Find a complete list of all the materials you will need for your homemade decoupage Easter eggs:

–       Wooden Eggs

–       Foam Brushes

–       Decoupage Glue

–       Gloss Glue

–       Paper napkins (choose napkins with the design you would like to add on your eggs)

–       Scissors (any is good)

Extra:

–       Acrylic Paint

–       Paint Brushes

NOTE: These extra materials are in case you would like to paint your wooden eggs as we do in the example below.

Step by step for creating your Decoupage Easter Eggs

1.     Paint the base

Take a wooden egg and paint it using your favourite acrylic colour, then leave it aside to dry off. If you would like just to decoupage your eggs, you can skip this step.

2.     Divide the napkin layers
If you are using napkins for the decoupage, you will only need the top layer with the design on. Gently divide the napkin layers using your fingernails. If you find yourself struggling, try to rub the corner of the paper napkin with your fingers or another flat object like a debit card.

3.     Cut & shape!
After taking apart the napkin layers, cut the shape of the design you would like to apply to the eggs. We recommend cutting small pieces and glue them together in the next step as the eggs are not very big and have an oval shape.

4.     Glue & create!
Take a small bowl of water, the decoupage glue, and a foam brush. Dip the foam brush in the water (just a little) then mix with a small portion of the decoupage glue. Place the cut-out on the wooden egg and start applying the glue. Using the foam brush, adjust any wrinkles and remove excess glue. Set the egg aside to dry.

5.     Finish & Vanish!
If you wish, add some details using the acrylic colours then let it dry. Once done, vanish using the gloss glue! Now your Decoupage Easter Eggs are ready to be used as nice homemade Easter decoration or as a purposeful gift!
